CASE STUDY #1: A Bill of Material project

Project description:

The goal of this project is to develop a web-based application to upgrade an old  system on the purpose to shift the client's primary IT development environment to the web. The project is used to manage material bill of ceramic chip manufactured in a division of the client. One of the main application's functions is to provide reporting and manufacturing equipment connectivity to the system.

The Challenge:

Chip manufacture is an industry in which technologies change frequently, therefore the solution must guarantee that these changes will not impact the current system and do not cause spending much time to adapt. The client chose VietSoftware International as the solution supplier for their sophisticated set of requirements.

The success:

To ensure success, it was crucial to clearly define roles and responsibilities as well as the communication protocol. To help in achieving success, VietSoftware International team and the client defined an iterative approach based on Rational Unified Process that was acceptable to all parties involved. VietSoftware International team was responsible for delivering the client project plan. Numerous technical and managerial exchanges were accomplished through face to- face meetings and via the telephone. Weekly status meetings between the client Project Manager and the VietSoftware International team were held via conference call.

Final result of this project was a much more useful solution which helped the US client reduces more resources, easily monitor the material of Chip. With the success of this project, VietSoftware International and the US client established a trustful relationship. There were more next signed contracts with more complicated business.

CASE STUDY#2: A Web-based Production Report project

Project description:

The project's goal is to develop a software application for a division of the client in New York. It is used to create daily production reports with a server based and web delivered process. The application consists of a web front-end component used for maintaining report configurations and a backend component used for analyzing, parsing, constructing and delivering daily reports.

Application will be deployed and maintained on IBM Platform (which is based on IBM WebSphere and IBM DB2)

The Challenge:

The application supports for more than 2000 distributed online users from the client’s divisions in US and Canada

The backend processing component retrieves all the rules for a given report, parses them, extracts the relevant input data from the DB2 data tables, then applies the rules to create the report. The backend component also provides the ability to “mail” finished reports in any of the defined forms (XML tree, HTML, Printable PDF) to one or more TCP/IP addresses.

The success:

The client are satisfied with every deliverable during the whole project. VietSoftware International team received more experience from the experts in both business domain and technical domain.

Key success factors are:

  • Designed and implemented an open application which allow flexible adapting another changes
  • Defined and maintained a good communication plan which included weekly meeting via telephone, project status report.

CASE STUDY #3: Toyota project

Project description:

The project is to maintain a large system named Oracle FI of Toyota Vietnam. It included 3 major services: preventive maintenance, Oracle DBA & technical advisor and system recovery.

The Challenge:

The preventive maintenance plan must be prepared and carried out regularly and carefully. The patches and fixes downloaded from Oracle service website must be tested carefully to make sure they does not create a new problem or crash before applying.

In case of system failure, VietSoftware International is responsible to send engineers to Toyota’s premise no later than 04 hours after receiving the client’s notification, in order to solve the problem and recover the system into normal operation at the soonest time.

The success:

An Oracle certified DBA was assigned to lead the project. VietSoftware International and the client not only strictly implement the contractual engagement, but also cooperate with collaborative attitude. As a result, Oracle FI operated smoothly and the contract was extended by 3 years (from 2003 up to present).
